Worst Service ever

Dec 28, 2014 by Paul

This service has steadily degraded. It never was fast or consistent. Over last few months it has gotten so bad I can't even open web pages, news casts or on-line class videos. The speeds are 1 -10th of the publishes speed that I pay full price for every month. They should be paying me.

Hughesnet should not even be in business. They advertise high-speed internet and at best provide dial-up speeds. I have cancelled my service only after 3 weeks because it seems I can only get close to high-speed internet service between 2 a.m. and 9 a.m.. Hughesnet is a joke! If you want to pay for high-speed internet, but only get dial-up speeds then Hughesnet is for you! It's not for me!!!

Worse than a string and two cans.

They talked me into upgrading from my old Hughes Jupiter system, which I had been on for 3 years. Gen 4 has delivered inconsistent speeds, sometimes dropping to BELOW DIALUP speeds. When I phoned their customer service, the Indian woman told me that I should REBOOT my computer and the modem any time I experience slow speeds. If I did that, I would be rebooting multiple times per day. [...] It\'s easy to see why Hughes is despised so much. If you have ANY other options, do not waste your time with this crap.

Forget about webcams or remote access!

Anyone wishing to use IP security cameras or remote access to a computer on the "Gen4" system will need to use another provider. Hughesnet residential will NOT supply you with a static IP address or the capability to port forward through your modem. Both are required to have remote access to your home system. You can "upgrade" to a business account with the only option being 5mbps download 1mbps upload, 25 gig data. 20 gigs are limited to 8am-6pm, 5 gigs anytime. I had to cut my speeds in half, reduce my data and pay 40$ more per month for this service. I have no other option at my location. I would suggest Wild Blue, any other satellite provider, or even a wireless system through your phone service. Verizon is 99/month with better speeds and data limits. You will pay a 500$ one time fee for the static IP though. Regardless of what Hughesnet tells you, THERE IS NO PLAN TO OFFER STATIC IPS OR PORT FORWARDING WITH THE gen4 SYSTEM. In fact, I have been told it is not even possible with their current network architecture.

unbelievable

I talked to a sales rep on the phone and I told them I would only do a one year contract. When I called to cancel. I was told I was under a 24month contract.I was told by rep that it would be only one year. Customer services said the sale rep is a third person and they don't have anything to do with hug. They don't even have a record of who it was. I am going to see what a lawyer says about this.

BAD! BAD! BAD!

Nov 25, 2014 by Charles Tucker

Well pleased with service and customer service until the introduction of GEN4. I have been consistently advised to upgrade but I consistently refuse. My data started mysteriously disappearing on a daily basis and time allowed would go to zero. No reason for this. Contacted customer support several times and they would tell me I showed time left according to their records but my internet speed would be virtually zero (always advised to upgrade to Gen4). My meter would show zero allowance left. I had seven tokens built up to restore my speed. After only three month I now only have about 3 tokens left. I spoke with tech support was bumped to level 3. They couldn't answer the problem bumped me up to home support (at no charge) I allowed them access to my computer. They couldn't find anything wrong on my end and said it was the modem. Referred me back to Hughesnet. Ordered a new modem. Tech support could not provide correct parameters to register it. Their website is configured incorrectly to accept registration. (tried several browsers). Returned the modem hoping to get credit. Yesterday when I attempted to access the internet it said my time limit was exceeded. I unplugged the modem and left it until today. After 24 hours (when it should have been restored, it wasn't. After 28 hours data usage was finally restored. Switching to Exede in the morning. A shame that a company that has performed so well in the past can go downhill so fast. (Oh well that's the AT&T merger for You). Sounds like a class action lawsuit coming to me.

Hughes Net is a joke!

Nov 21, 2014 by Steve Chappell

I don't undestand how they can get away saying that they have high speed internet. Yea, I agree it's ok when you first get it. It's like a cell phone you only get so much data usage then it get bad slow. For example I'm downloading a program that normally with cable would take 21 mins. I'm having to wait 9 hours this is so sad I'm ready to sue if I had the money to sue. My problem there is no cable or nothing where I moved to. If I had some idea it was this bad I would have never bought a house in this area that's how disgusted I'm am with it.

Gen 4 is a Joke

Nov 18, 2014 by Lucy

I can't get service when there is cloud cover, when the wind blows or there is a drop of rain, or I guess if a bird flies in front of the satellite. There is always some sort of lagging download/upload speed. I upgraded to Gen 4 thinking this would solve the choppy video problems - what a joke. I can't even use my camera/video or Skype because there is such a delay time in transmission. I feel like I have been duped. The "Tokens" are a joke. Just another way of squeezing more money from their already bloated fees.

Horrible Service/Customer Service

Nov 16, 2014 by Debbie DeRenard

Cant understand Customer Service Rep. I pay extra for service calls - but am told it will cost me. Internet is slow to stopped! Can't wait for my contract to be over!

1.1 5.0 418 418 Was with Hughesnet for a total of 5 years. First 2 years by contract. Last 3, month to month. When I cancelled the service to go to Starlink, they were unwilling to prorate the Hughesnet Gen4 Satellite Internet
