ViaSat Exede broadband internet Exede is a satellite internet service provided by parent company ViaSat. The service was launched in 2012 when the ViaSat-1 satellite was put into service. Before Exede, ViaSat offered WildBlue on an older Telesat Anik F2 satellite. In general Exede's real world performance is over 10x faster than WildBlue's. The new ViaSat-2 satellite is scheduled to be put into service later this year (2016). SKU UPC Model

something's wrong somewhere

If there were a 0 rating that is what I would give. There is something going on with this service: we have used 147 G in 17 days, a good bit of that occurred in the middle of the night when we were asleep. We do not use our phones' wifi, just 2 computers. We do not stream nor do we surf the net. Just business.
You tell me, What is going on? This is the second month it has been this bad, the first two were bad enough, but this is just beyond probability, possibility, or anything else.
Our problem is it is the only service we can get. I am going to start tethering my computer to my phone, much cheaper!!!!

Service

Connectivity issues which some were expected as it is a satelite system. However there were far too many. There techies need more training and other support personnel, billing, customer service training also. Sould you cancel your contract early , you will find avery less than helpful support staff. To disconnect you be charged for the techie to come out 90.00 for that. You will be sent a box to mail the reciever and modem back. If when they receive the items and said items do not work or not in good working order you will be charged 150.00 for each item. Any one of the two items might not work as I am having problems being the reason I have cancelled the service. They will put up the dish but will not take it down. I understand that but it was not mentioned in my contract. Direct TV tells you right off that the dish is your issue. I will retire soon and will reside in the countryside and will not be using Exede services I would rather use two cans and a string or pigeons. Ray

Charges for data you don't get.

Slow service. Currently on a 20GB per month service which runs out of data in 4 days with only regular internet use; no downloading or streaming. My cellphone has only 10GB and I can tether my laptop on it all month long and have never run out of data. They uses YOUR data for THEIR maintenance. Crooked company. Avoid this company.

Deceptive Practices

Dec 13, 2016 by Kent

I upgraded from Wildblue to Exede (same company) and paid an upgrade fee, as well as to have them come out and install it. Service was poor. Customer service worse. When I cancelled service after several years they told me I owed them nothing and they didn't want equipment back. Later they sent a box wanting the modem and for me to climb up and disassemble the outdoor unit and send them back. Next came a big bill and threats if not paid. Still they can't show me that I ever agreed to any of these terms. Do yourself a favor and find another solution!!!

$95 charge to take their equipment back

Dec 13, 2016 by Matt Johnson

Beware the service charge to get their equipment back from you. Unless you're willing to climb onto your roof to get it down yourself, which I'm not willing to risk falling for.

There also doesn't appear to be any way to remove automatic payment information, so they're happy to take their money out in the 7 day period required to cancel automatic payment.

Taking your money for no service

Dec 09, 2016 by Randy rugg

I'd give zero stars if possible. I moved 14 months ago and after 6 months they started charging me even though I was not receiving service. They were told when we got settled into our new house we would call and start service again but they started it without our knowledge at a house we don't even live in.

IMHO it is theft for charging for something not supplied to a customer

stole my money

Service wasn't the best but customer service is the worst!wanted to upgrade my speed...they sent me a new modem which they failed to tell me wasn't compatible with a Mac so sent the modem back in their packaging they sent me....5 months later they out of the blue charged me $150 for not returning the modem...after HOURS...literally over 3 months (6 hours) they told me over and over again that I would first get a refund and then a credit...never once did they call or email with any problems, just wouldn't credit me back. Every time I called they would have to "research it" with me on the phone (1 1/2 hours every time)Always came up with the same result...package was received ...packaging was damaged but not the unit so would credit within 10 business days...NOT! Finally quitting them...not worth the aggravation...They kept my $150 which they stole from me but in this day and age, there are better COMPANYS out there! apparently business must be good because they are willing to lose a good customer of 5 years. DO NOT EMPLOY THESE PEOPLE.

Disappearing Data

Dec 08, 2016 by Mike

Until approximately 4 months ago the service was acceptable. Things took a dramatic change, my data was disappearing faster than I could count. Prior, I rarely even came close to my 15g limit, then all of a sudden I could barely make 2+ weeks before I had drastically cut back and/or purchase additional data. This billing cycle I made it a point to sign in after midnight and for sure off by 5. I made doubly sure everything was off or disconnected.
Two nights ago I signed in after midnight only to find my disconnected equipment had used 1.1g of data. I contacted customer service requesting assistance. Apparently Exede and Microsoft use the the same personnel, NOT OUR FAULT! I have now turned to unplugging the power to the modem to see if that works.

THE WORST OF THE WORST!!!

slower than a 14400 dial up modem. customer service is non existent. Once you sign up , you are stuck for a year. maybe if I lived 300 mile from the closest town and i had no other option, but at this point I would seriously consider carrier pigeon.

Something Crooked This Way Comes

Dec 06, 2016 by James Beverly

We always had good service with Exede until November when our data completely vanished after only 4 days. We average 3 weeks on the 10gb plan running 1 computer and 2 phones. We called and I was told that it was an issue on our end with streaming. I knew this was wrong but I let it slide after dealing with then for 2 hours on the phone. So now this month rolls around and the data resets on the 4th (this past Sunday) and in only 1 and a half days all the data is gone again. Called and was told the satellite on their end was having issues. Even if it was where did our data go? I then messaged Exede on their Facebook page and was given an email address to contact. I did that and after an hour or so I received a return from them saying the same crap they did last month. That it was due to heavy streaming and using the Internet so much. Only 1 and 1/2 hours of use had been used. Why the shady tactics all of the sudden is beyond me. I recommended Exede to my sister and she just got it and she has had nothing but bad service as well. We all live in a rural area that only allows satellite Internet unless we go with Windstream dialup speeds. I would give anything if people would treat others decently. This is not our fault but now we are stuck with a second straight month of no data. I can only hope this goes through as I am typing it on my phone using wifi that has a speed of 0.28 down and 0.19 up thanks to these incompetent people.

1.2 5.0 1231 1231 having seriouse speed issues, complained to company they schedualed a technician to come gave a 3 hour window for the tech to be there, waited the 3 hours then called and they said Exede broadband internet
