ViaSat Exede broadband internet Exede is a satellite internet service provided by parent company ViaSat. The service was launched in 2012 when the ViaSat-1 satellite was put into service. Before Exede, ViaSat offered WildBlue on an older Telesat Anik F2 satellite. In general Exede's real world performance is over 10x faster than WildBlue's. The new ViaSat-2 satellite is scheduled to be put into service later this year (2016). SKU UPC Model

Disappointing

Exede is adequate if you have NO other options for internet. The problem is the data limits. If you are used to high consumption (iPads, iPods, on demand, netfix, etc) then with exede you will quickly run out of bandwidth every month. We had the highest bandwidth plan (25 Gb per month) and consistently ran out of bandwidth by the 15th of every month and spent two weeks (at least) at a miserably slow speed that did not allow streaming of any kind. The free data between 12 and 5 am consistently didn't work well and it seemed like there was some problem with opening up the free data after midnight. Sometimes it didn't start working until well after midnight (like 1 am). We spent exactly two years with them in order to fulfill the contract requirement but at the end of the contract I paid the $3600 to comcast to have them extend the Xfinity line from the street to my house (1000 ft) so we could go with hard-wired broadband. We are very happy with the new comcast service (so far). In retrospect, I should have paid the $3600 to comcast two years ago and went with them from the start. Lesson learned, I would not go with exede unless you have NO other option.

Don't go with Exede

Sep 26, 2014 by Karolyn

We've used this service for 6 months. It was slow and unreliable. We went back to broadband internet, which wasn't available in our neighborhood when we signed up for satellite. We're paying $270 to get out of the contract with Exede. We weren't getting the service we signed up, so in my opinion they broke the contract. The two managers I spoke with today were very condescending when I described our connectivity difficulties and asked if they would be willing to waive one-half of the cancellation fee. They said the written email that I received after signing up stated that their Internet does not work with 3rd party devices such as DirecTV or phone WiFi. We also have to disconnect the satellite dish ourselves and send it back or else be charged an additional $300. My suggestion is to choose another company for your Internet service.

Never been so dissatisfied

As with others, sorry I had to give 1 star. I changed from 10 gig plant to 25 gig plan. Still couldn't stay under data cap. They gave me 5 more that month for a total of 30 gigs and still went over. We didn't stream movies because don't want to use the data. We don't stream music, don't use on demand, don't do much anymore. Still over all the time. Went back to 10 gig plan because I couldn't tell the difference between plans. They all stink! Looking into other options and will gladly pay departure fees. Same chromed service issues as everyone else has had. Even when they are trying, it's terrible.

REPORT TO FTC

Sep 23, 2014 by pam day

Just filed a complaint with the FTC. If everyone having problems starts doing this maybe the company will have to do something a LOT better for its customers. Here's the website: http://www.ftc.gov/ there's a spot for internet - get the information filed and HOPE!

RUN THE OTHER DIRECTION - FAST - BEFORE THEY SUCK YOU IN!

Sep 23, 2014 by Pam Day

The installation was a fiasco from the start. The installer got out here & was great, spent time hooking everything up & then tried to actually get the internet running - couldn't - she called in and spent 2 HOURS on hold being constantly transferred. Turned out the office actually closed shortly after she called. After 2 hours we gave up & since she couldn't make the 60 mile trip out again the next day, I ended up trying to get SOMEONE to get it up & running. Turned out I needed to sign a document. In order to get an installation date, I had to pay the 1st month - they had all my billing info, but somehow when it got to the day - nothing matched up. Round and round we went. A week later I got a past due notice. I'm now in my 2nd week & HATE this company.

HAS ANYONE THOUGHT ABOUT CONTACTING THE FCC TO SEE WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT THIS COMPANY? HOW ABOUT THE BBB?

I'm a substitute teacher & have to get my assignment mostly online, some are by phone. With all the problems, I found out in an email I had been requested for a job while the tech was here. So 1 day missed, the next day I couldn't work again because I needed to deal with it. So 2 days @ $110 per day lost wages. Substitutes do not have sick/annual leave. Supposedly I am suppose to be showing a credit for 1 month for all the hassles - we'll see once I can figure out where/how to get logged in. One spot said: use your account number which is on all correspondence - nothing was on the contact I "signed". Emailed the sender and NEVER received a response. WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE - RIVALS CENTURYLINK! Would get O stars if available!

Avoid Like The Plague.

I'm going to keep this review as short as possible and to the point.
Pros:
1. Speed is fine: around 700kb/s - 1.5mb/s
2. The installation went smoothly.
That's it.
Cons:
1. Expensive, be prepared to sell your kidney.
2. 10GB data limit is way too low if you like to watch more than one video per month.
3. Their website (which is the only way to check your data usage) is SUPER slow.
4. You will need to stay up until 12:00AM - 5:00AM if you want to use it without it taking away from your limit.
5. I and a few other people I know were randomly charged for ordering more GB, when we never ordered.
6. To order one extra GB, it's $9.99! That's outrageous, I hope you have that kidney ready to sell.
7. Their customer "support" is one of the worst experiences I have had in a while. I'm glad I wasn't face to face, let's leave it at that.
8. The contract they have you sign is just their way of sinking their claws into your wallet because they know how bad of a company they are. They want to drain you of your hard earned money before you rid yourself of them.
9. If it's raining, storming or just cloudy, say bye bye to your service. Mine would cut out in intervals, quite fun watching those lights cut in and out!
10. They're only out to rob you of your money. I don't say that lightly, so be warned. If you or someone you know uses this "service" *if it can be called that*, then warn them as well.

Stay away from this service!

Sep 21, 2014 by Anthony W. Clevinger

Speed is good during the early day time (around 10 Megs as the advertise)but drops down to below 2 MBPS at night. Can not use at night because it is so slow. I called and was told by a representative that it slows down at night because more people are using it. She used the example of traffic on the highway. she said the more cars the slower the traffic at rush hour. Sounds like to me that they have sold to many subscriptions to the service for there equipment to handle. You are just as good with dial up if you try to use this service at night.

poor instalation

I cancelled service because they made two appointments to come install service and never showed up. Then after the second time they where supposed to come i called and the customer service rep told me they outsourced installation and there was nothing they could do about it that if i waited i would get installed whenever a technician was in area. I said i didnt want to keep taking days off work to wait on them the customer service rep told me he was sure i could get installed one day this week whenever a technician was in the area.

Would Rather Not Have Any Internet

Sep 19, 2014 by Sierra Cunningham

I have plenty of options for internet providers where i live... Direct tv told us about exede... no one ever told me it was cap internet .... no one asked me how many gigs i would require per month. My husband and i work 6 days a week and do not steam movies ... all we do it play on facebook and browse the internet. We went over are internet after 7 days .... it was a joke they could care less.. Customer service was the worst i have ever dealt with . I was required to pay a 300$ to cancel after having it for a little over a week. Then on top of it you are required to take the satellite of your roof and send a part back to them.. Do not Do not use this company

1.2 5.0 1231 1231 having seriouse speed issues, complained to company they schedualed a technician to come gave a 3 hour window for the tech to be there, waited the 3 hours then called and they said Exede broadband internet
