ViaSat Exede broadband internet Exede is a satellite internet service provided by parent company ViaSat. The service was launched in 2012 when the ViaSat-1 satellite was put into service. Before Exede, ViaSat offered WildBlue on an older Telesat Anik F2 satellite. In general Exede's real world performance is over 10x faster than WildBlue's. The new ViaSat-2 satellite is scheduled to be put into service later this year (2016). SKU UPC Model

Waste of money, nothing but frustration

Mar 11, 2015 by Susan

My experiences with Exceed match up with all the other reviews. Terrible ping time, data seems to get used up way too fast even though I don't stream any movies and very few Facebook or other videos, terrible and rude customer service, always my equipment, even though problem went away after I called. There are not any other options in my rural area, verizon reception is sketchy on my phone. Waiting for technology to change so I can quit doing business with Exceed.

Data Metering is a Rip-Off

Mar 11, 2015 by James Marziotti

The data metering on my account seems to run like a Taxi meter. In other words as long as the power is turned on to the dish the meter is running against your data quota even if no devices are actually using service. The installer told me to live the dish powered on 24/7 but if I do I run out of service half way through the month. I turn the power to my dish off at night and yet they still manage to take away data from my monthly quota. Frequently the meter doesn't start at the full amount at the beginning of the month. If you don't watch their metering closely they will disappear large chunks of service for no reason. Their answer is always that either my equipment is bad or somebody is using the data. They have yet to explain how I can be using data in the middle of the night when the dish is powered off. This week they re-set my monthly quota a week early so I would have lost a week of service and the data I still had for the month. I called numerous times to complain. They finally fixed it but I'm sure if I hadn't caught the issue it would have not been rectified. Bottom line, they will do their best to keep you from getting the full amount of data use paid for. I don't like doing business with a company that has proved to be untrustworthy. Unfortunately the land based ISPs don't service this area.

Substandard Service & Just took a $10 month INCREASE

Mar 09, 2015 by Christy

Service is not as great as we were promised. No faster than what we had, service goes down all the time and to top it off our monthly service just took a $10 price increase without any notice whatsoever. I think it's time to start looking elsewhere because I don't like being overcharged for substandard service. Had I known this is what we would have ended up with I would have never switched over. Highly disappointed! I don't think they even deserve 1 star.. needs to be about a -5 stars in my book.

next to useless

Mar 07, 2015 by Bob

I wish there was a negative star rating because that would be my choice. I HAD this service for 2 years and spent 1/2 the time calling and complaining, to no avail, and the other 1/2 researching alternatives. It took 1 year to finally discover I could use my cell phone, Verizon, as a carrier. Excede promises a lot and delivers nothing. The latency is around 900ms, which is real bad. Their up and down load speeds are a joke, based on sppedtest.net, and speakeasy.net. Their customer service acts like you are a complete idiot and blames every issue on your equipment even when you know better. Our computer went down during moderate rain storms, and even when it wasn't raining. our Direct tv satellite which was installed next to it, maintained it signal every time. I had a tech come out and loosened the dish saying it was too tight which is why I was losing signal, and then a follow up tech re tighten it because he said it was too loose? That didn't give me much confidence. The phone customer service reps ranged from 2 good ones who told me 90%+ signal loss was there fault to so rude I almost lost it over the phone. The cost per gig is no bargain after you exceed your limit and the throttle speed renders your computer useless if you don't buy more. I bet in the 2 years of service I lost connectivity over 100 times to the point I gave up calling because I could read their script back to them verbatim after hearing it so much. If you have cell phone reception, check your carrier for service. Canceling this service was the second happiest day of my life; the first being the day I married my wife. This company is NOT an I.S.P. provider; it is an aggravation provider. Do your research and find any, except Hughesnet, alternative if you can.

Worst internet

Mar 05, 2015 by Robbi

It started off with a terrible installer. He left all his trash behind and did not explain anything about the service. He was the worst service technician I have ever had at our home. All of this would also explain when you call the customer service line, that they are just as bad. I'm trying to disconnect my service and even this is a bad experience. NEVER again will I deal with this company. I can handle the slow internet but not BAD customer service. I highly recommend looking for other internet providers.

Terrible service

Mar 05, 2015 by Sharon

I have a 15G plan and am frequently running out of data far before month end. I don't understand how I can be consuming that much data for primarily one device surfing the web or FB activities. We don't wacth videos or live stream at all because the 15G's isn't adequate to allow for that much activity. We don't even connect our DirecTv service to the Internet in order to conserve our allowance. I wait until the "free" period between 12am to 5 am to do updates, and feel always on guard of watching usage to the point it's just not pleasurable to even have the service. I truly suspect something is improper about how Excede/ViaSat measures data usage. Speeds are much less than promised and my recent experiences with customer service have been horrendous. I was charged $95 for a service call that never occurred. I called to get a credit and was promised a refund, but it never came. It has taken 6 mos of calling each month to try to resolve. This last time the guy even suggested that perhaps I didn't remember correctly because it'd been so long! Honestly, I was livid because after repeating the account every month for 5 months, my memory was certainly not the problem. The most recent rep then inferred that the service was performed and I just wasn't aware. Seriously??? Another complaint I have is they post your statement to your account the very same day they automatically deduct payment from your account. The ONLY way you can pay is through automatic deductions. So when you do have legitimate billing disputes, it's aggravating and very time consuming to try to get it resolved. I just find nothing really redeeming about having Excede/ViaSat, and if I had another viable option to to it, I would JUMP at switching! I consider ViaSat just a step above dial-up at an extreme cost premium. Because I believe the accounting of your data usage is somehow not based on actual consumption. I'm so disenchanted I'm considering changing to installing a mifi at my home and buying data from Verizon, AT&T or some other local carrier. When I spoke with a verizon rep recently they didn't understand how my conservative usage habits could consume so much data. My advice to anyone is DON'T go ViaSat! I've had them many years and have never been happy. I gave 1 star rating only because they wouldn't accept ZERO stars!

To whomever it concerns at exede internet.

My name is Jake **** and my account number was ******731. Your company is a complete joke and I can't believe how you treat your customers. I was drawn into your company by Directv, a good company, that was looking for a solution for my slow internet services with century link. They set me up with your company, told me as a directv customer I can get set up at 49.99 a month for 2 years with a 20gb plan, which sounded great to me becuase that's what I was currently paying for the slow service I already had. On the day of installation the technition came out and installed everything and informed me that the modem is an extra $10 monthly fee. Ok that was fine, I figured an extra few bucks for better internet would be fine. After using this internet for 10 days I was almost over my GB limit so I called into customer service and talked to one of your veteran customer services employees who was a great help considering the circumstances. So I changed my plan to a 30gb plan in hopes this would solve the problem. When I talked to this representative he told me that I was misinformed by directv and your installer that I would have a 30 day risk free trial period and exede had recently changed that policy. But he told me that if this plan upgrade didn't work that I could call in and get it disconected and get the termination fees cut in half. I called in, and basically got laughed at by your customer service team. I never thought anything of it when I ordered this service in the beginging that I would ever cancel, but even so I was told that I had a 30 day grace period. I would just like your company to know that this is a good reason why the country we live in, is in shambles. I tried out your internet service for 20 days, and it did not work for me. So now after I was told by directv and the installer that I would have 30 days to decide if this service is right for me, I have to pay around $500 for 20 days of service with your company?? That's just not right. But I will never Have a good thing to say about this company, and anyone around my area will know what kind of company you truly are, so I wouldn't expect your sales to ever go up in this area.

Sincerely Disapointed Customer of Exede

garbage

Horrible. Latency is horrible. 4 days after reset I'm told I used my 30gb of data. Paying 90 bucks a month for the equivalent of dial up.

Download and upload rates not as avertised

Mar 02, 2015 by Sam Leslie

When I first signed up for this service I was promised 12GB download and 3GB upload speeds. And indeed I often obtained download speeds as fast as 18GB. Uploads were a different story, only occasionally approaching 3 GB.

Today my download speeds are averaging around 3 GB and occasionally up to 7 GB. Uploads are worse, only occasionally exceeding 1 GB and typically around 0.05 to 0.25 GB. I am lucky if I can Facetime with my grandkids without the screen halting or freezing.

If I had access to a real Internet Service cable or telephone company provider I would switch in a heartbeat. But I live in a rural area and there are no plans to provide such service in the future.

I have a "Smart" TV which has a lot of features for using the Internet, but I cannot use any of them. The bulk of my downloads is taken up with just updating my software packages. Apple is particularly bad as it seems that I have a new update every week or so (iTunes on two PCs, two iPhones, one iPad) that I have to download.

Of the satellite providers, I do think that Exede is among the best available. But it is apparent to me that they have added so many users that we no longer can enjoy fast downloads. I specifically asked the person who took my order whether I would have this problem in the future and she promised me that it would not deteriorate. I am not happy.

"Out of this World" but that's not a good thing

Mar 02, 2015 by Ty

Welcome to rural Missouri where all you have avalibile to you is TERRIBLE satellite Internet from Exede where speeds are "Out of this World". First off the Ping is 700+ all the time. This completely does not let you play online games. Never reached advertised speeds of 12mbps. After my family reaches the 10GB data cap (in 1 Week) they trottle you so hard you CANNOT use the Internet at all. (Out of this World" Download Speeds of 0.2mbps) I cannot load Web pages!
The "only" neutral thing about this plan I have is the Free Night time zone. (But it's not that great because it's from 12AM to 5AM and I have a job where that just isn't somthing I can do. Watch out Exede when DSL and Cable come to rural areas (they eventually will) so many people will cancel their service it will seem that you don't exist. Currently Writing this review on my iPhone's cellular data. Overpriced, CRAZY Throttling, and literally "Out of this world" Ping! Whould have given zero stars but that's not possible!

1.2 5.0 1231 1231 having seriouse speed issues, complained to company they schedualed a technician to come gave a 3 hour window for the tech to be there, waited the 3 hours then called and they said Exede broadband internet
