ViaSat Exede broadband internet Exede is a satellite internet service provided by parent company ViaSat. The service was launched in 2012 when the ViaSat-1 satellite was put into service. Before Exede, ViaSat offered WildBlue on an older Telesat Anik F2 satellite. In general Exede's real world performance is over 10x faster than WildBlue's. Terrible service. Do not purchase. They do not give the data usage you pay for. I have compared my usage by turning off my wifi and only using my phone data usage to compare GB data usage.

Reading thru the reviews posted from 06 JAN 2015 and back into DEC 2014 tonight - I have had exactly the same issues with these people. We called to get Direct TV, told us that they'd hook us up with their "internet provider," Exede. The installer didn't have a contract that would load, or a hard copy for me to sign, but had me initial a release so he could install - got a computer signed copy later. Never any kind of review of the terms of the contract with an actual person, yet there's my signature on the contract - I never knew my signature could look so good in computer generated form……. (NOT MY SIGNATURE!!!!). My stories are redundant to those already listed - horrible service from the get-go; missing download time; slow-as thick-snot service; inability to use Magic Jack, etc.; attempts to contact via e-mail go unacknowledged/unanswered for days/weeks (my only response via e-mail was to send me info for trouble shooting already on the Exede self-help site (i.e. turn XYZ on/off, reboot, blah, blah, blah); call to customer service get disconnected mid-conversation as I'm trying to get someone out to my house just to check things out and no-one will talk to me - it's like it's the last thing they want to do. The one time I did spend time on the phone with a service rep he told me that my Apple computer often "had trouble" with Exede, or the the issue is my router (need to buy a new one?!! - ummm..., just bought this router and it's not a cheap one either). If the router is used at all download time disappears at a disturbing rate (mysteriously overnight during the "free zone" time no less!!). The same amount of Skype time my daughter uses to talk to a friend in Europe uses 100MB on Verizon, but Exede meters it at 400-500MB of usage. wish I could give negative number of stars. Dreaming of my dial-up circa 2002. If a lawsuit ensues, let me know.

Bought this service in November. Installer showed up in a clunker and started walking around. Instead of using a ladder started climbing on my stuff to install the dish. When I started to read the contract he quickly told me its all standard stuff and tried to shuffle me along. I'm disappointed i never saw the line that stated that this is a two year contract with a $15 per month early termination fee. Then I get a copy of my contract with an electronic signature stated everything. Considering eating the $300 and just buying out my contract for the $40 comcast service with 3x the speed and 15x the monthly data allowance.


Exede needs to research what customer service is.

I have had exede for 22months now. After about the third month I have been waiting for this 24 month contract to expire. Service is crap. Constantly on & off-line. I can be surfing the internet, click on a new page and get an "offline" notice on my device. Five seconds later the page loads. This happens regularly on every device I use. Finally last night after two days on no service I call customer service and find out my modem is malfunctioning and they need to send out a tech. to fix it. Ok, no problem until they advise me I have to pay the tech for a service call!!! What? "so you are telling me I have to pay someone to come to my house and fix your equipment?! I think not!! So I advise him to just credit me for this months service being that I can't use it and then cancel my contract. My early termination fee was $30 but yet they expect me to pay $100 to repair crappy service. I have to mail back the modem and the receiver piece of the dish but yet the actual dish and the pole is now trash in my yard that I have to dispose of. What a bunch of crap. They will do anything free to get your commitment to a contract but after that its "screw you". The final thing was once I got to work this morning I attempted to log into my account to see what had been done yet as far as fees and credits. Well I couldn't log in. I call them and since I canceled service I no longer even have access to my account and billing information. So here I sit, at their mercy, being that they have my bank account info, helpless to do anything until I get my bank statement next month and see what they may or may not have charged me. Total bunch of crap. What I really can't wrap my brain around is why not just do an exchange on the modem through the mail. That simple gesture would have avoided all this but it was never given as an option. Either way, Exede, Wildblue, ViaSat, or what ever name you are using today, you will never see another dime for me. Hope you enjoyed the last 22 months!

Too bad I could not submit this with minus stars! We have Direct TV, so when I asked them about internet for our area, they recommended Exede ViaSat. We have extremely poor reception in our neighborhood. Our old company was a broadband company. We also have Magic Jack for our phone. I was told by Exede that our Magic Jack phone should still work with Exede, but it does not. Shame on me for not researching better! When I tried to get onto their chat format, I entered all kinds of info they said they needed to contact me. I never did find a spot anywhere on the website where I can actually chat with a live person online....Their website is extremely user-UNFRIENDLY! I never got contacted by them after trying to initiate a conversation online. I am very unhappy with this outfit. It will cost me to get out of it, but I'm sure they have already planned ahead, and will use my money to rope in more unsuspecting people, and profit from my mistake. I smell an upcoming class-action lawsuit!

We started using this service as there are no other options for us where we live. We signed up for the 10g plan which worked fine for 1.9 years. Then we had an earthquake in August 2013 and a technician came out to check our satellite in September. Now our 10g last around a week. "Customer service" gave me the same song and dance that they give others: we are visiting marketplaces, loading videos etc and it doesn't matter that I tell them our surfing habits haven't changed one bit. We do not have Netflix, made sure our TV wireless is not connected, made sure our phones are not connected. They just give you the same answer over and over. It is your issue, not theirs even though multiple forums show virtually thousands of people have the same complaints. I filed a complaint with the FCC, next stop Attorney General. Exede needs to be prosecuted for their fraudulent business practices. One user even posted that usage went up during the night while his modem was unplugged. Well that's just magical. Do not sign up for this service if you have any other option.

Data limit is reached every month with several weeks remaining in month and I hardly use it except for Facebook! I am totally perturbed with Direct TV for bundling me with this company! I am going to drop both Exede and Direct TV because of this! It has been an ongoing nightmare to run out of data with half the month remaining!

Wss told false information when I signed up....was out of timd in 15 days! The customer service rep said that the internet was perfect for watching netflix and taking on line classes.FALSE! This internet is a joke! Now it cost me 345.00 to disconnect....ill see u in court!

Please truly reconsider before you sign a contract with Exede! I recently left a DSL provider to go to the fast internet of Exceed. I discussed my internet needs extensively with the local representative and he confidently told me several times that 10GB service would be more than I would ever need in a month. A Promotion from the company allowed 20GB for the same price for 6 months so I went with that. In 18 days I used up 18GB of usage. I do not game or watch TV or movies. I had to start counting every click. Very unhappy I called the company to explain how I felt I had been misled. With the overlap of my DSL provider I was able to compare the speeds, it was not noticeable in my use of the internet so I decided to end the service from Exede. It is hard to believe that a very dissatisfied customer with in 30 days of signing a contract would be held responsible for all the penalties etc to disconnect. Especially, due to the misrepresentation of the amount of usage I would need,and speed. However living rural with few options, I bought into the sales pitch.Over time to use Exede would cost me more than the penalties ($352) so I did terminate that contract. Still needing to send back all the equipment. If you even considering this ask them if you can try it for at least a month before you sign a contract with them. If they are so sure as they seem to be before you set up with them of the cost/month and their service why should this be a problem?

Terrible rip off. Awful customer service. I've spent hours on the phone arguing about using all of my 10 gigs in less than a week with wifi turned off and only plugging the modem in when I sit at my computer. I guess I have an internet ghost using my data! How do you use data with everything unplugged?! There should be a class action lawsuit against this company !
