Not worth it!

Oct 18, 2015 by Logan Nickel

My data was used up within a week maybe two. The amount the internet speed was slowed down was ridiculously too slow. Then after the large setup fee and now the large cancellation fee that was never brought up to me, yes I know that its in the agreement, but I told them I only needed the service for 3 months, and this would not be a problem. This has to be the worst service ever for the price I had to pay. Never again will I use Hughesnet or will I recommend Hughesnet to anyone, I will tell them to just get a regular cable internet provider. Absolutely the worst!

walk away while you still can

Shady from the beginning. I had Direct TV recommend Hughes Gen 4. I was not told of the 2 year commitment. The plan they sell you is not enough speed to satisfy the TV requirements. The WiFi constantly faded in and out from the beginning. I called and they wanted to sell me more speed to make it work which I had a small calf over and my butt still hurts. I was promised more speed via their kindness and waiving of their fees but told not to wait for the speed increase as it was not a immediate increase. I called again and they had no records of their prior conversations. I terminated them and after hours on the phone they lowered their early termination fee $100 so now I just owe them $315 for service that never worked.

gen4 should be a negative numbet

This is a horror story. Worst service ever. I so miss Uverse, which does not service my zip. I have Direct TV which suggested Hughes net. TV good, Hughes net horrid. I called, they do not care. I can add data and it is gone in minutes, it seems. Gen4 is a joke. My grandmother was faster moving than this. I am stuck because of where I live. I use my phone hotspot, when I really need something important. I HATE HUGHES NET GEN4. It is a joke. Forget calling. They do not care about the customer being happy.

Worst experience yet!

This was by far the worst experience with an Internet/phone service provider. When you call to sign up, they make it sound like an excellent plan at 55G a month in data. What they don\'t tell you, is you can only use 5G between the hours of 8am and 2am. The other 50 are \"bonus\", and can only be used between 2am and 8am...... Seriously!?! They will also lie to you, and tell you that there are no satellite internet services that offer unlimited data plans. This is not true, as I have currently switched to another company and now have an unlimited plan.

You cannot understand a word the service techs say when you call to complain, and even when I asked for a supervisor, it was very hard to understand what they were saying because of the extremely thick foreign accents. I have no idea how they are rated the #1 satellite internet company in the country. Unless they are the only company available to most people outside normal coverage areas.

After extensive (3 hour long) conversations, I finally got my internet service cancelled. They refused to work with me on the cancellation fees, even though I was deceived by their staff on multiple occasions.

I would warn any and all people considering signing up with this service to find another company. I guarantee you will NOT be satisfied with any part of your service with hughesnet. Don\'t make the same mistake I did.

Gen4 highspeed isn't really all that fast. Plus, if you lose service due to their equipment failure, they charge an obscene amount of money to come to your home to wiggle a wire, talk on the phone for 15 minutes, fix it and leave. Apparently, there's repair plan, they don't tell you about, that you can purchase when the warranty expires, on a date you don't get notified of. But little good that does you once they've already taken the money out of your account. And yes, you can call, try to work something out, attempt to get some sort of a refund so your checks don't bounce, since you don't have enough money to cover other bills that are pending because you were told by the repair person you would NOT have to pay anything. But all you'll get is a very polite TOO BAD! WE DON'T CARE! and WE"RE KEEPING ALL of the MONEY THAT WE TOOK! In my opinion this is a horrible , HORRIBLE way to do business! And as soon as I am un-chained from this nightmare contract that I'm stuck in for 4 more months, I will instantly CANCEL and NEVER return!!!

It is the king of buffering. I would not recommend it to anyone. We pay $79 a mo. We paid $37 a mo. for high speed internet with At&t u verse and it was way better. We moved to Mcloud and we couldn't get U verse there. I'm sorry to say it's sorry. SMH

This has been NOTHING but a headache since the second month I have had it. We use 10 gb in 4 days and the thing they cannot is explain is how that happens when we weren't even home. The customer support is in the Phillipeans, and they read off a script. When asked to speak to the supervisor, we were told she was too busy. When asked to be transferred to the United States, we were told that is impossible. Funny it wasn't impossible to speak to someone in the United States to set the whole system up. AND when we asked to have a person come out and look at our system, we were told we could for an hourly rate. Right now our motum is unplugged to see if we are still eating up data, as I post this using cell phone data!!!! Ugh! Small town, rural USA, gotta love it!!! I ONLY PICKED 1 STAR BECAUSE I HAD TO! I would pick negative stars! I didn't even mention the heartache, stress, and time we have consumed in the phone with these people for NOTHING to be fixed!!! Maybe we should employ local technicians.

HughesNet Totally Sucks

Constant "data depletion". It is such a common occurrence that their tech support reps have a term for it. You are on the internet for 10 minutes and they say you used 3 GB of data. You question them and they can't prove it, they just say that's what their system shows (in broken English). I even put two different internet usage software programs on my computer and it proved that HughesNet was ripping me off. We tried another modem, etc. I finally got to where my family had to unplug the modem at 8:00 am and not use the internet unless absolutely necessary. 10GB plan + 50GB (bonus between 2:00 and 8:00am). No gaming, no Netflix, etc and they would charge us for 3-5GB per week, sometimes charged when the modem was unplugged! HughesNet is a terrible company and I would NEVER use them again. In fact I paid good money to terminate early. Now with ATT U-Verse with faster speed and 250GB/month at about half the price. And guess what, my usage is in line with what my usage software says - imagine that. Avoid HughesNet like the plague! A terrible, terrible experience.

1.1 5.0 418 418 Was with Hughesnet for a total of 5 years. First 2 years by contract. Last 3, month to month. When I cancelled the service to go to Starlink, they were unwilling to prorate the Hughesnet Gen4 Satellite Internet
